What is a Chiropodist / Podiatrist?

A chiropodist or Podiatrist ( Podiatrist is the internationally recognised
name) is someone who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of foot conditions. Since 2005, the title became protected and can only be used by someone registered with the HPC ( Health Professions Council). Registration depends on successful completion of a recognised course of training and commitment to continued professional education.

About Chiropody

Everybody's feet are different, but we usually inherit foot shapes, nail shapes and the mechanics of how we walk, so if your parents or grandparent have a particular foot problem then it is possible it could be passed to you.

If you have had an injury to a major joint in your body such as hips, knee or ankles then that can change the way in which you walk possibly leading to foot problems.

Foot wear can also have a major impact on how comfortable your feet are depending on the size, shape and style of the shoes.

Ageing is probably the biggest change to feet that we experience.

How we age is again down to genetics, but on the whole as we get older our skin does not take as much pressure as when we were young.

The skin is drier,more fragile with decreased circulation. Ill fitting foot wear can cause pain through corns and calluses, in growing toe nails. Often the arches in our feet will lower or collapse causing pain under the foot and stress on the tendons and ligaments.

What Chiropody can do for you

Chiropody is for everyone, not just the elderly.

It can help with the mechanics of walking, relieving pain from strained feet and tendons

Regular chiropody can keep feet feeling comfortable and healthy.

Chiropody can keep corns and calluses at bay.
